How can Entreprises choose the right eReading technology : iPad, IRex, Kindle or something else ?

I follow everyday the news on eReading on the web and I have to say it's a huge jungle.

For example : the iPad has been pushed in Europe this morning. eBouqin.fr has
give us today a nice list of applications to use on the iPad for eBooks and Documents.

The new eReading devices (ePaper eReaders of Tablets) certainly allow us to increase our information consumption productivity. But how to choose the right configuration : hardware, software, integration with the back-ends (SAP, PeopleSoft, HR, CRM...) in order to actually speed up business processes and achieve the target ROI ?

After finishing playing with the iPad, people will ask themselves :"Ok how can I actually work with it ? How can I get the important information on my eReader to get my job done".

That's why I work on a eReader Reference Architecture. This architecture
starts from the Actors, Roles and Business Processes in order to define
the requirements for the eReader tier such that it collaborates with the other systems out there.

I'm currently working on a eBook which describes this eReader Reference Architecture.

University students have difficulties learning on epaper

Distributing university courses on ePaper seems a very promissing idea. Here are 2 tests of ePaper in Universities:
  1. With the iRex DR1000S at the University of Amsterdam during the eReading Event : Annemieke van der Mark /Marketing docent Hogeschool van Amsterdam : Hoe ervaren studenten de e-reader voor hun studieboeken? Evaluatie van een praktijktest. PRESENTATIE

  2. With the Kindle DX at the University of Virginia (Darden School of Business)
Unfortunately, the results for ePaper were in both cases quiet negative...

In Amsterdam, students who could use an eReader went back to regular paper.

At the University of Virginia, the following quote resumes the "problem":
“You must be highly engaged in the classroom every day,’’ says Koenig, and the Kindle is “not flexible enough. … It could be clunky. You can’t move between pages, documents, charts and graphs simply or easily enough compared to the paper alternatives.’’

We will need to find the right ergonomic setup for those devices such that they enable rather than slow down learning.

iPad in July in Belgium : What about 3G ?

The iPad will arrive in Belgium in July 2010.

Unfortunately it's not sure that the 3G will be possible with all operators :

"What is important to note here is that the 3G version of the iPad only support the SIM microcards  (also called 3FF). This is a more compact version of the current 2FF SIM card which are used by all Belgian GSMs. To our [DataNews] knowledge, the Belgian SIM microcards are temporarily unavailable. Only the mobile operator Mobile Vikings have already announced microcards ordered from the manufacturer Gemalto SIM. They should be provided in June, just in time so before the launch of the iPad See http://mobilevikings.com/nl/blog/micro-sim-cards-ordered/ ."

The WePad is now the WeTab...

I have received this email today :

    "Madam, Sir, WeTab Fan,

To clearly differentiate our products within the international market for tablet computers, as of today we have changed the product name of our tablet computer from WePad to WeTab. Similarly, the company formerly known as WePad GmbH will now trade under WeTab GmbH. This change only concerns the name of the product and company."
